I feel guilty for not putting my 3 year gym membership to use. I go on an average of once a month these days, twice if I’m lucky. If I depend on my gym visits to get me back into shape and back to my pre-pregnancy weight, I’m never gonna get there. The last 10 pounds are the hardest to lose and I’ve been struggling with them for the past 3 months. One month I got hooked on eating mochi and that added a few pounds back on. My cake cravings have gone wild (must be the breastfeeding). In fact I am eating a cupcake right now. But I’m determined to eat my cake and lose weight (and get toned) too! My latest secret in not gaining any more weight and slimming down has been exercise videos on Hulu.
I LOVE HULU!
Hulu is a website where you can watch/stream current episodes of TV shows for free on your computer. Since we’ve banished our TV to the garage years ago, we go to Hulu to catch up on our favorite shows when it’s convenient for us. There are fewer commercials and we can pause the shows when we need to. A few months back I discovered that Hulu has a wide selection of exercise videos…everything from traditional yoga to dance workouts. It’s pretty awesome and it’s FREE! (If you want to stream to your mobile devices – phones & ipads, you need to pay for Hulu Plus.)
I’ve purchased exercise DVDs before – they were expensive, I never really knew what I was purchasing until I took them home and watched them, and after a few weeks of doing the workouts, I would get bored or the exercises became too easy. With Hulu, you can try out different kinds of exercises with no commitment. You can save yourself the embarrassment of learning a new exercise in public. (I remember my first Zumba, Hip Hop, and Afro Belly Boogie classes – I stood in the back of the classes and could hardly keep up.) You can go at your own pace and use the commercial breaks for water breaks. I love that I can do a challenging workout at home while my kids are sleeping. It’s so much easier than bringing both of them to the gym.
Check out what Hulu has to offer in the fitness sector. Try searching some of these terms in the Hulu ”search” box to find the right workout for you:
- Yoga Zone
- My Yoga Classes
- Kathy Smith
Unfortunately, Hulu recently removed the “Get Fit, Stay Fit” series (which contained a great cardio kickboxing workout with Violet Zaki) and the ”Dance and Be Fit” series (which had a fun bollywood exercise workout) but I’m hoping they may return one day.
Get excited about getting fit! – TO YOUR HEALTH!
***UPDATE***8/18/12 – The “Get Fit, Stay Fit” series and “Dance and Be Fit” series are available on Hulu on and off. Check them out!
